2010 update # 33 of August 14

Vanessa-Mae news: The Telegraph quotes Vanessa-Mae in a headline as follows

Vanessa-Mae: I want to be an Olympic skier

The Telegraph elaborated further on Vanessa-Mae's plans to participate in the Olympic winter games of Sochi for Thailand in a report on a conversation that they had with her Swiss alpine apartment in Zermatt. A highlight are the following lines from the article show that Vanessa-Mae realises very well that that way into the Olympics will long and difficult :

Vanessa is realistic about her skiing ambitions. Yes, she concedes, there is pressure that those accustomed to her success in the music world will expect the same level of accomplishment. “But it has been my dream, and I am hoping people will accept I just want to give it my best. To even get to the Olympics, I have to qualify for the 2013 World Championships and the standard is high. I know I am always going to be a few points behind the top guys. I am taking a plunge. I am British, but realistically there is no way I could represent my own country, but because my natural father is Thai, they have accepted me.”

Part of the conversation in Zermatt also involved Vanessa-Mae's musical career.

Vanessa-Mae: Don’t underestimate how important my music is to me. It is still my life’s passion. It is still the essence of who I am. It is just that I am more relaxed now.

Vanessa-Mae mentioned that she is working on a new project, though no indication for a release schedule was given by her. The Telegraph quoted Vanessa-Mae as follows:

It involves dance and music – not me dancing, you understand. Taking up ballet at 31 isn’t an option. But I have long been keen to amalgamate my style of music with dance.

2010 update # 31 of July 31

Vanessa-Mae news: Various media report that Vanessa-Mae plans to start for Thailand at the 2014 winter Olympics of Sochi as down hill skier.
Various media in Thailand, Germany and the UK report that Vanessa-Mae plans to start as down hill skier for Thailand during the coming winter Olympic of Sochi in 2014. According to the media, the Thai Olympic Committee approved Vanessa-Mae's participation, who is now awaiting final approval from the International Ski Federation. Final confirmation from Vanessa-Mae herself on this issue is still lacking.

Vanessa-Mae was said to ski for Thailand already during the 2002 Winter Olympics of Salt lake City. At that time, Thailand insisted that Vanessa-Mae should give up her UK nationality in order to get a Thai passport, which Vanessa-Mae was not willing to do. However, in 2002, Vanessa-Mae was granted the Thai nationality, because Thailand felt that the country benefits from merits and achievements of people like Vanessa-Mae who have Thai ancestry.

Vanessa-Mae chronicle
The new Vanessa-Mae chronicle for August is now available and deals with Vanessa-Mae visiting the International Cartier Polo Days in Windsor. The first lines of the story are as follows:

Vanessa-Mae is known to be quite reserved when it comes to attending so-called celebrity parties and gatherings. We have seen her at various events that were organised and sponsored by Audi cars, primarily in her role as VIP user of this brand of automobiles - Vanessa-Mae and Lionel own several Audi cars themselves! An event she has also frequently visited the past years is the preview for VIP's of the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London - we will write about these events in the future as we have many nice photos of her attending these. Other events that she has visited are ballet evenings, movie premieres, launch parties of fashion and jewelleries stores, and fashion shows.

Vanessa-Mae news: Dutch television broadcasted The Making Of Me with Vanessa-Mae last Thursday, July 22.
Dutch television channel 3 broadcasted the BBC documentary The Making Of Me with Vanessa-Mae last Thursday evening, July 22, at 9:00pm CET. The show with Vanessa-Mae attracted some 242,000 viewers in the Netherlands. The first episode with John Barrowman, broadcasted the previous week, attracted about 219,000. These numbers are quite good for a documentary after prime time, especially considering the fact that the programs dealt with non-domestic celebrities that are not too familiar in the Netherlands. How many people have been viewing the shows in the surrounding countries that might be able to see Dutch television, is unknown.

2010 update # 29 of July 18

Vanessa-Mae news: The Making of Me broadcasted by Dutch television on Thursday, July 22 at 21:00 on Channel 3.
Last Thursday, July 15, Dutch television channel 3 aired the first episode of the BBC documentary series The Making Of Me. The second episode with Vanessa-Mae is scheduled to be broadcasted on Thursday July 22 at 21:00 on channel 3. The Making Of Me follows the search of three outspoken British celebrities for answers about the origin of their talents. They ask the question: was it nature or nurture that made me to who I am; in other words: is talent primarily determined by our genes, or by life style, social upbringing and practising. The series highlights musical star and known homosexual John Barrowman, athlete Colin Jackson and violinist Vanessa-Mae in their quest for answers, and was broadcasted by the BBC in the summer of 2008. To find the answers, all three were subjected to (semi) scientific tests and were examined  by specialists from various disciplines like psychologists, physicians, and neurologists.  An extensive review with screen captures of the episode with Vanessa-Mae is available at VMSPOS, see Vanessa-Mae: The Making Of Me.

New collection acquisitions: 11 new photos
We recently acquired the 11 photos shown below for our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae. A brief description of the photos and the events follows below the table.

photo 5 photo 6 photo 7
photo 8 photo 9 photo 10 photo 11

photo 1: This photo was made in 1995 at one of Vanessa-Mae's Red Hot Tour concerts in the UK. Look at her eyes and brows to see that Vanessa-Mae was already heavily made up at her concerts even as a young girl of 15-16 years. At his concert, Vanessa-Mae was in an elegant black dress with flower print in green and red, and she had a cross pendant dangling at a nice tiny necklace visible in the V-opening of the dress. This photo is available in gallery 2 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae.
photo 2: This photo is part of a series that was made in 1997 for the promotion of her album China Girl. Vanessa-Mae wears a wig and a dramatic midnight blue lace cheongsam from Shanghai Tang. Do notice Vanessa-Mae's perfectly shaped eye brows that have been defined with a black pencil to sharp lines on top of her covering make-up, she also had lots of mascara defining her lashes. This photo is available in gallery 8 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae. We have several more photos of this session and these will be added in one of the coming weeks too.
photo 3: This photo was made in May of 2001 when Vanessa-Mae did a few surprise impromptu appearances in London to promote her new album Subject To Change, and at the same time to raise money for charity. This particular photo was made on Trafalgar Square, and is available in gallery 6 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae. Other photos of this event will be added soon as well. Vanessa-Mae looked splendid in a bright red T-shirt and blue denim jeans.
photo 4: Vanessa-Mae photographed together with David Tang, owner of the Shanghai Tang fashion stores, at the launch party for Jade Jewellers store in London on September 15 of 2002. Obviously David Tang had a few drinks, already. Vanessa-Mae was in a wonderful long and elegant black dress, and she was beautifully made up, moderately and certainly not overdone: she looked fantastic there!
photo 5
: Vanessa-Mae and lady Sarah Ferguson, joking with a clown at a gale evening in London on November 23 of 2002. Obviously, Vanessa-Mae and Sarah Ferguson were having a good time. Vanessa-Mae was gorgeous in a multi-coloured silk dress. The red lipstick and defined eyes indicate that Vanessa-Mae's face was considerable made up that evening, which looked fantastic in combination with the fine dress. This photo is not available in any gallery yet.
photo 6: Vanessa-Mae portrayed at a movie premiere in London on October 1 of 2003. Vanessa-Mae was gorgeous in a sturdy outfit of black pants, a definitely fantastic white sleeveless T-shirt with V-neck, and the white cap on her shining long black hair served as an well-found attribute in her presentation. The excessively used deep red lipstick in her face wear contrasted brilliantly with the white of the T-shirt and cap. All in all, a first-rate presentation of Vanessa-Mae. This photo is not available in any gallery yet, but we will come back to this as we have several more photos of this event in our collection.
photo 7:  Vanessa-Mae and Lionel at the Cartier international polo day in Windsor on July 29 of 2007. Vanessa-Mae was conservatively in a flowery silk blue to purple dress; here on the photo she hides her face that was perfectly made up - see the red lipstick that was excessively used - behind large dark sunglasses. This photo is not available in any gallery yet, but we will come back to this as we have several more photos of this event in our collection.
photos 8 and 9: Vanessa-Mae photographed in Barcelona on November 26 of 2009, when she attended the opening ceremonial evening of the new facilities of Mandarin Hotel Group there. Vanessa-Mae endorses the Mandarin Hotel Group via the I am A Fan promotion campaign. In return, the Mandarin Hotel Group donated money to the RSPCA  - The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Vanessa-Mae was in an elegant strapless black dress; the red lipstick contrasted nicely against her rather pale complexion.
photo 10 and 11: On December 4 of 2009, Vanessa-Mae attended the ceremonial opening of the new facilities of Mandarin Hotel Group in Las Vegas. Vanessa-Mae engaged in the ritual cutting of the ribbon. On photo 10, she examines the large scissors to be used in the ceremony. Photo 11 shows all the dignitaries lined up for the ribbon cutting. Vanessa-Mae had a fine blue shining dress of creased satin material. Vanessa-Mae's face was nicely made up, not too descriptive but still obviously present.

New photo gallery 14 now online:
As was announced sometime ago already, we now made a series of photos of Vanessa-Mae in front of Kensington Palace in London now available in a new gallery 14. Do follow the link to see the complete series and read the descriptions.

Or Why Marriage is Not In the Near Future For Vanessa-Mae.

As all devoted and loyal fans of Vanessa-Mae know, she was born as Vanessa-Mae Vanakorn, on October 27, 1978, in Singapore.

This is by the way the 196th birthday of that great Violinist and Composer Niccolo Paganini. It is also the 300th day of the year. Her father was Varaprong Vanakorn, of Thai decent. Her mother was Pamela Tan who is of Chinese decent. Her mothers family had considerable holdings in Mainland China, which were confiscated in the Communist takeover, although some of it has since been returned. Her father Varaprong, was Manager of a Hotel in Singapore. Her mother Pamela, was a Lawyer and also a professional Concert Pianist. So as you can see, even at this early date, Vanessa-Mae lived an above average and cultured life in Singapore.

Vanessa-Mae news: Vanessa-Mae is mentioned as one of the top 10 ranked of music's greatest child prodigies of our modern times
Vanessa-Mae is ranked in the top 10 of music's greatest child prodigies of our modern times by Music UK and Ireland. Vanessa-Mae comes fifth after Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Britney Spears and Charlotte Church.

Comments by VMSPOS: We think that the first top ranks for Michael Jackson and Stevie wonder are undisputed, but why Vanessa-Mae comes behind Britney Spears and Charlotte Church is unsatisfying to us. Of course we are biased but, nevertheless we feel we have a case to rank Vanessa-Mae third or fourth at least.

Vanessa-Mae at the internet
Adoi Magazine of April 20, 2010, has interesting article about The Mandarin Hotel Group and The Fan of the Mandarin Hotels campaign that they use to promote their facilities that are located all over the world. As most fans probable, Vanessa-Mae is fan of the Mandarin Hotel Group as well, and she acts in the campaign, see the promo below. In return for being a fan, the Mandarin Hotel group spends USD 10,000 to a charity of choice of that fan. For Vanessa-Mae, Mandarin endorses The RSPCA - The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Among other famous and influential celebrities acting as fan are Sigourney Weaver, Brian Ferry, Michelle Yeoh, Lance Armstrong, Helen Mirren, Sir David Tang and I. M. Pei.

The article describes how the fame of celebrities can be used to promote a brand, and what the conditions are to make it a successful collaboration. They mention three aspects and Vanessa-Mae certainly fulfils these beyond any doubt. These aspects are as follows:

Attractiveness of the celebrity
Credibility of the celebrity
Meaning transfer between the celebrity and the brand

Read the article to find out the meaning of these terms.

Recent collection acquisitions
VMSPOS recently acquired the 9 photos shown below for our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae. A brief description follows below.

The 3 photos of Vanessa-Mae on the top line were made in 1997 or 1998 during a concert of the Storm On World Tour - we have no knowledge about the exact venue and date, though! At this concert, Vanessa-Mae was in a wonderful silk long dress with panther print design. Obviously, Vanessa-Mae was heavily made up at this concert, look at the strongly accentuated brows and her eyes in a complete smooth complexioned visage. These 3 photos are placed in gallery 4. The photo on the left of the middle row was made at Vanessa-Mae's Original Four Seasons Tour in 1999 at her Vienna concert on May 27. This photo is be part of gallery 5. At this concert in Vienna, Vanessa-Mae had short hair and looked casual in black pants and a black sleeveless undershirt. The next photo was made during Vanessa-Mae's special performance on March 7 of 2000 at the Rado Headquarters in Basel where she was credited for her role in the promotion campaign of the new Ovation model. This photo is now available in gallery 5. The photo to the right on the middle row was made made in 2001 when Vanessa-Mae did a photo shot in Moscow during a visit there to promote her new album Subject To Change. Vanessa-Mae was dressed rather casually in jeans and a denim jacket, and she had spike heeled black boots. Her face was perfectly complexioned with crème, powder with a finishing touch of deep red lipstick, and she had eye definition with mascara and liner. A new gallery where this photo will be available will be started in the near future.

The photo on the left of the bottom raw was made during a concert for the Tour For Change, probable end 2001 or 2002. Vanessa-Mae looked quite casual as she mostly did during this period of her career, with a fine red cotton sleeveless top and blue jeans. Remarkable, Vanessa-Mae did not looked made up, this in contrast to so many other concerts where a perfectly applied make-up was a prominent tool in her presentations to gain attention. The photo is available in gallery 6. The photo in the middle of the bottom row was made on February 19 of 2003 when Vanessa-Mae and Lionel attended the Julien McDonald fashion show in London. Vanessa-Mae was in a fine blue sleeveless top and purple trousers, and she was only moderately made up. This photo is not part of any gallery yet. Vanessa-Mae played a concert in Athens, September 24, 2009
Vanessa-Mae played a concert in Athens, capitol of Greece, September 24 of 2009. Vanessa-Mae acted in a fantastic show in font of an enthusiastic and delighted audience in the historic atmosphere of the ancient Herodeon Theatre underneath the famous Acropolis in Athens. Till now, we were not able to find any information about this concert on the internet. It was only very recently that VMSPOS discovered the 23 photos below that were made during her concert in Athens, last autumn in 2009. The first 3 photos to the left on the top line given an impression of the historic and ancient character of the venue, and it must have been a great pleasure and very rewarding for Vanessa-Mae to perform in such a fantastic environment. The other photos show Vanessa-Mae at her performance wearing a fine black silk dress with only a single left shoulder strap, showing a crucifix pendent dangling at tiny necklace on her open chest, walking on high heeled black open shoes, and wearing heavy make-up with flawless complexion of a firm covering crème, discretely blushed cheeks, a dollop of dark purple shadow in a sharp line half way up to the perfectly styled brows, cherry red lipstick, and the shadows of her lashes with excess mascara visible by the incidence of the lights underneath her eyes. Vanessa-Mae looked fantastic that night in Athens!

2010 update # 2 of January 9

Vanessa-Mae on the internet:
We recently discovered the ladies in satin blog that serves the owner as a means to express his obsession for beautiful women wearing shining satin and silk clothes. Photos of celebrities dressed in silk and satin are used by this blog, and the 5 photos depicted on the top line below, are shown on a page devoted to Vanessa-Mae. VMSPOS had these photos, plus the 3 on the bottom line, available in the old style photo galleries till 2008. Obviously, the blog owner took the photos from VMSPOS as the links of the full sized photos still refer to the names under which we originally stored them (photofil1 to photofil8).

These 8 photos were made in the summer of 1997 or early spring 1998 in front of Kensington Palace in London. Vanessa-Mae looked extremely gorgeous in a Chinese style all silk outfit with red shining suit, jacket and pants over a bright yellow silk long sleeved blouse with frog buttons upfront. Both the blouse and suit are shining garments and prominently decorated with Chinese figures. In order to counterbalance the highly decorative nature of the silk clothes, Vanessa-Mae's face was very heavily made up with a flawless covering foundation crème to create an impeccable complexion, smouldering eye definition with brown shadow, lots of black liner and mascara, and with her full lips excessively painted in colour red matching her silk suit. All in all, Vanessa-Mae looked beautiful and delivered an exquisite and balanced presentation here. These photos have always belonged to our all time favourite photos of Vanessa-Mae, and we will make them available in a separate photo gallery soon.

2009 update 59 of December 31

New video of a young Vanessa-Mae: In 1992, BBC television aired a short documentary about Vanessa-Mae who was 13 years old at that time. The title of topic was What's That Noise. The video is available at You Tube at Vivien 71 channel and is shown below in embedded player.

source: Vivien71 channel at You Tube

New collection acquisitions: We recently acquired the 10 photos shown below for our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae. A brief description follows below the photos.

Top row: The first two photos on the left were made during Vanessa-Mae's Original Four Seasons concert that she gave in Vienna on May 27 of 1999 at the Konzerthaus hall. The two photos were made after the break when Vanessa-Mae had changed into a tight black pants and black sleeveless undershirt. The next two photos were made in 2001 when Vanessa-Mae did a photo shot in Moscow during a visit there to promote her new album Subject To Change. Vanessa-Mae was dressed rather casually in jeans and a denim jacket, and she had spike heeled black boots. Her face was perfectly complexioned with crème, powder with a finishing touch of deep red lipstick, and she had eye definition with mascara and liner.  The final photo to the right was made at her concert in Hong Kong at the Convention Centre on September 18 of 2002. Here, Vanessa-Mae was dressed in flower print tight pants, a sleeveless purple top, and she had heavy make-up on, of which the deep red glossy lipstick was markedly present. This photo has been added to gallery 6 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae.

Bottom row: The first two photos on the left were made during a session for the October 3 of 2004 issue of the Sunday Express. The mid photo portrays Vanessa-Mae at a party to celebrate Chinese New Year held on February 19 of 2007. Vanessa-Mae is rather casual, but the decorative multi coloured Chinese style silk blouse over blue jeans and spike heeled boots looked fabulous on her. She did not look too much made up. The final tow photos to the right were made on April 6 of 2008 when Vanessa-Mae participated in the Olympic Relay through London with the Olympic flame. Here, she was in a white with bright red sporting outfit.

Vanessa-Mae news of 2009: A page with an overview of all news regarding Vanessa-Mae of 2009 is now issued at Vanessa-Mae news: the archives 2009. Here, all topics regarding Vanessa-Mae's activities and whereabouts are listed in chronological order. A page with forthcoming news for the year 2010 has already been created at Vanessa-Mae news archive 2010. Here all upcoming news about Vanessa-Mae in the year 2010 will be gathered. This news will be brought to you here at the VMSPOS homepage, but will be transported to the archive page afterwards. News of previous years (2005-2009) can be accessed via an overview page at Vanessa-Mae news archives overview.

VMSPOS site statistics: Now the year 2009 comes to an end, we can conclude that the number of visitors decreased significantly with respect to the years 2007 and 2008 - exact data are available in the colophon on top of this homepage and will be slightly below 60,000. So far till 2009, since the launch of VMSPOS, the number of visitors developed upward gradually. We see three reasons for this. First, the continued lack of a  new album of Vanessa-Mae subdues interests. According to Vanessa-Mae's management Merlin Music Company, the new album will be launched in 2010, though an exact date is not mentioned yet. Moreover, Vanessa-Mae's touring schedule has also been limited the past two or three years. We can expect a massive increase of the number of visitors to VMSPOS once the new album will be out, and once she will go on tour with her new music. A second reason might be the fact that our photo galleries are not up and running completely since our restyling and reorganisation. Our collection of photos forms the largest privately owned collection and we observed massive attention from visitors for them, as well as we recorded many hits in our site statistics from search engines for these photos. We aim to bring back our complete collection online gradually over the coming years. A third reason for the decrease in visitors lies in the fact we suffered outage of our site several days this years because of technical failures. Obviously, the most important reason for the decrease in the number of visitors lies in the lack of a new album and subsequent subduing of attention as a result.

Nevertheless, VMSPOS will continue to keep all fans of Vanessa-Mae informed to the best of our ability with news, forthcoming tour dates, reports and photos related to our dearest and beloved Vanessa-Mae in the coming year. Besides news, We will continue to bring visitors Vanessa-Mae chronicles, photos of the week, and interesting quotes on a regular basis. Moreover, we aim to complete our list of reviews with a few missing items like Vanessa-Mae's role as Princess Zobeide in Arabian Nights movie, and Vanessa-Mae's filmed Alternative Classical Concert that she gave in 1997 at the Birmingham Symphony Hall on January 25. Also, a few short documentaries with a young Vanessa-Mae (under 13!) broadcasted by the BBC will reviewed.

December 4, 2009, Vanessa-Mae participated in the launch ceremonial opening for the new Mandarin facility in Las Vegas, and she performed at the gala evening as well.
Vanessa-Mae acted in the ceremonial opening of the new facility of the Mandarin Hotel Group in two ways, by a joined cutting a ribbon with dignitaries and other celebrities present, and with a splendid and spectacular performance at the gala evening.

The 6 photos below were made at the ceremonial cutting of a ribbon by dignitaries and celebrities. Here, Vanessa-Mae was styled in a wonderful creased blue shining satin dress, she had a crucifix pendent that nicely dangled at a tiny necklace in the V-neck opening of her dress, and her face looked quite natural, moderately made up with minor eye definition and light purple lipstick as marks in a smoothly complexioned visage - see the photos below.

At her performance at the gala evening, Vanessa-Mae provided the audience an unforgettable show with great music, spectacular lighting of backgrounds, and a beautiful physical presentation in a bright red gala dress, open shoes with exceptional high heels, and, of course, an overwhelming make-up consisting of firmly applied covering crème, eye definition with black liner and mascara, lush lipstick and a fine blush high on her cheek bones both in the same red as the dress. The 22 wonderful photos below underline Vanessa-Mae's enchanting appearance that evening.

New Vanessa-Mae videos on The Vanessa-Mae Channel at You Tube.
The Vanessa-Mae Channel has three interesting new videos available of Vanessa-Mae's appearances on television dating from 1997 and 1999. The videos are shown below in embedded players.

Video 1 shows Vanessa-Mae on April 17 of 1997 when she performed Toccata & Fugue at the Music World Awards held in Monaco. Vanessa-Mae received the award for best selling classical artist of the year. Vanessa-Mae was dressed in a evening blue mini dress with silver trimmings, and her face was heavily made up, especially the smouldering eye make-up was striking. Notice how articulate and eloquent Vanessa-Mae was in addressing Prince Albert and Princess Stephanie  the audience during her accepting speech.

Video 2 dates from November 1997 during Vanessa-Mae's visit to  the USA to promote her new albums Storm and China Girl. This video shows Vanessa-Mae at her performance of 'I Am A Doun' at The View. After she played, Vanessa-Mae had a brief chat with the show host. Vanessa-Mae appeared dressed in a short bright red cheongsam in Chinese style with frog buttons up front. Like always during the whole Storm and China Girl period, Vanessa-Mae looked quite made up here, especially considering the fact that she was only 18-19 years old then.

Video 3 dates from April 1999 when Vanessa-Mae appeared in the Donny and Marie Osmond television show. She was in the USA to promote her album The Original; Four Seasons, and in the show she played The Devil's Trill. The quality of the video is not too good, but as can be judged from her expression, Vanessa-Mae was very heavily made up for this television appearance.

In the summer of 1997, Vanessa-Mae received the distinguished honour to appear as only foreign artist in the ceremony of the handover of Hong Kong to China. Being a British citizen and being half Chinese by race, Vanessa-Mae formed the perfect icon, by decent and musical artistic identity, to symbolize the relations between the two countries and its two people, to give their historical and future relationships an identity and multi-cultural character. This disarming portrait of mother and daughter was made on May 27 of 1999 after Vanessa-Mae's Original Four Seasons concert in Vienna. After the demanding concert, Vanessa-Mae is casual in an army green sleeveless undershirt and green cotton trousers. Her face looks natural with only very limited make-up.

Photos 2 & 4: These two photos are very nice close up portraits of Vanessa-Mae that were made in 2001 during her visit to3 Moscow in 2001 to promote her album Subject To Change. Vanessa-Mae wears a denim blue jacket and her face is absolutely perfect and gorgeous with an immaculate complexion of covering make-up crème.

Photo 5: Vanessa-Mae portrayed in October of 2003 when she was photographed for the Sunday Express. The Sunday Express would issue an article  about Vanessa-Mae in series of articles dealing with the cd collections of celebrities.

Photo 6: Vanessa-Mae photographed when she arrived for the Classical Brit wards ceremonial evening held in 2004 in the Royal Albert Hall on May 26. Vanessa-Mae attracted a lot of attention with her glamorous appearance, and she left her fans in awe. This evening, she used a golden dress that was especially designed for her. Vanessa-Mae's face was heavily made up to exude optimum glamorous looks - do notice her full skin coverage with crème and powder, the excess of black mascara, her perfectly shaped eye brow, and the luxuriant glossy red lipstick. At the ceremonial award evening, Vanessa-Mae would play music from her newly released album Choreography for the first time.

Photos 7 & 8: Vanessa-Mae portrayed in an hotel at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport when she passed there on a travel to Asia to promote her new album. At the airport, she did a television interview and a photo shoot. She was dressed in a purple silk dress with open back. Do notice her fine complexion and excessive glossy red lipstick.

Photo 9: Vanessa-Mae arriving at a party in The Mandarin Hotel in London  to celebrate Chinese New Year on February 19 of 2007. She was dressed in blue jeans and a fine silk flowery blue blouse in Chinese style with high collar and frog buttons. Her face looked natural with very limited make-up, with only some visible red lipstick.

Photo 10: Vanessa-Mae photographed from a distance, being hugged from behind by her life companion Lionel Catalan at he Cartier international polo day in Windsor on July 29 of 2007. Vanessa-Mae was conservatively in a flowery silk blue dress; here on the photo she hides her face that was perfectly made up - see the excessive red lipstick that was used - behind large dark sunglasses.

New documentary found on YouTube showing Vanessa-Mae in Finland in 1997
VMSPOS recently found a 30 minutes documentary on YouTube at the Mediakenraali channel. The documentary was made and broadcasted in 1997 when Vanessa-Mae visited Finland to promote her new album Storm. Our new Vanessa-Mae Chronicle provides a review with screen captures of this documentary. The first lines of the story are as follows:

Vanessa-Mae is very popular in the Baltic states and she visited this region of Europe frequently during her career - see the Tour dates of Vanessa-Mae. Despite this popularity there, her last visit to Finland dates from 1998 when she played at the indoor carting championships in the Hartwall Arena of Helsinki. Her last concert in Finland was also in the Hartwall Arena on May 2 of 1998 for the Strom On World Tour.

Vanessa-Mae visited Finland during November 1997 to promote her new album Storm. The media in Finland paid quite some attention to Vanessa-Mae's visit and the national television channel broadcasted a special 30 minutes interview documentary devoted to her! We recently discovered that Mediakenraali made the documentary available in 3 parts on YouTube. VMSPOS downloaded all 3 part, merged them to one video that can make available for downloading on request by email. In this chronicle, we will highlight a few aspects contents of the documentary and use screen captures for illustration.

Below, we already show 8 screen captures from the documentary.

Recent collection acquisitions
We recently acquired the 8 photos shown below for our collection of Vanessa-Mae material. A brief description of the photos follows below the photos.

Photo 1 on the top row to the left is a portrait made in 1995 or early 1996 of Vanessa-Mae with her acoustic violin in an affectionate pose to her breast. We have no clue about the exact date when, and location where this photo was made. Vanessa-Mae wears a fine shining satin silver green dress, and her face is heavily make-up - see the immaculate smooth complexion, the eye brows perfectly shaped with a black pencil, smouldering dark eye make-up, and her lips markedly painted red. In these early years of her career, Vanessa-Mae obviously opted for exuding the  subtlety of glamour looks with a lot of make-up that the status of being a world-wide celebrity requires to wear, instead of preserving her natural beauty of being a young innocent girl, a practice that she would continue in a very personal and fashionable manner throughout her career till today.

Photos 2-3 on the top row from the left were made when Vanessa-Mae was in transit through Schiphol Airport on a trip in November 2004 to the Far-East to promote her new album Choreography. At Schiphol Airport, Vanessa-Mae was interviewed by RTL 4 television, and she subsequently acted in a photo shoot. Vanessa-Mae had a wonderful silk blue dress with a deep cut n open back part. On these 2 photos, Vanessa-Mae has a mischievous look over her shoulder towards the photographer. Vanessa-Mae's face looks heavily made up - do mark, her exceptionally smooth complexion, the luxuriant sweet cherry red lipstick, and definition of her eyes with a sharp thin black line underneath, excessive black mascara, and minor dark shadow.

Photo 4 to the right on the top row portrays Vanessa-Mae on July 29 of 2007 when she visited the Cartier Polo day in Windsor. Vanessa-Mae looks stunning in a high closed fine silk dress with flower design in shades of blue to purple, and with her face perfectly made up.

Photos 5-8 on the second were made somewhere end 1999. We have seen one of these already years ago in a magazine and we have been looking forward to an opportunity to acquire photos from this session ever since then. These photos show a fantastic looking Vanessa-Mae sitting comfortable in a wooden chair, looking self-assured to the camera. Vanessa-Mae wears a nice casual cotton long dress with a design of horizontal black and white stripes, a garment she still uses occasionally today - see as an example BBC documentary of 2008 The Making Of Me. In that time, end 1999, Vanessa-Mae had short hair that already started to grow again. Here, she has a few dark blue painted hair locks for decoration. The close-up to the left reveals details of how Vanessa-Mae was made up for this photo session: Vanessa-Mae's face is obviously finished with powder to create a mat toned complexion, yet with glossy lipstick in almost the same colour as the foundation. The blue silver shadow that extends in thin perfect line underneath her eyes provide a funny and  roguish look to her face. This is really a great series of photos, and we are very happy to have these in our collection.

Photos of Vanessa-Mae at her Westonbirt concert, July 18 of 2009
We processed the photos that we made during Vanessa-Mae's concert at the Westonbirt Arboretum of last July 18. We optimised parameters like white balance and exposure with photo editing software (Silkypix and Capture NX2). This processing resulted in more clear photos and omission of the yellowish glow that the original photos exhibited, showing the real silver crème colour of Vanessa-Mae's wonderful dress more clearly - originally, it looked yellowish. A few photos are shown below as example. More can be found at our review on Vanessa-Mae live at the Westonbirt Arboretum.

The photos will be available in gallery 1 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae on short notice, as well.

2009 update # 38 of August 15

VMSPOS shows 11 new photos and 3 new videos that are available at the YouTube Vanessa-Mae channel
The 11 photos depicted below were recently acquired for our collection of Vanessa-Mae material. A brief description follows below each line of photos. These 11 photos are not part of any gallery on Collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae yet.

The photo on the left shows Vanessa-Mae arriving at the FHM gala evening on May 15 of 2001, where she attended as person listed as one of the 100 most sexiest women in the UK. For this occasion, Vanessa-Mae was dressed in blue jeans and a wonderful shining golden satin top, her face was made up to a smooth complexion with some red lipstick and minor black definition for her eyes. The second photo from the left was made on September 12 of 2002 at a launch party for the Gerrard Jewellers store that was organised by Jade Jagger. Here, Vanessa-Mae had a fine elegant black dress, and she used excessive red lipstick as striking mark in her rather pale complexion. The two photos on the right portray Vanessa-Mae with her friend Lionel Catalan during the preview for VIP's of the Summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts on May 28 of 2003. Lionel had a fine tie with colours in various shades of pink to purple that matched the beautiful pink dress of Vanessa-Mae nicely. Again, Vanessa-Mae's well used lipstick was striking feature in her face wear.
The photo on the left shows Vanessa-Mae posing when she arrived at the premiere of the Jules Verne movie in London on June 22 of 2004. Here, she used a fantastic bright blue short fur-like jacket and she lifted her face a bit so that her strong white teeth formed a full contrast against her bright red lipstick. The second photo was made on July 23 of 2006 when Vanessa-Mae and Lionel visited the Cartier Polo day in Windsor. Both Vanessa-Mae and Lionel looked quite casual. A year later, on July 29 of 2007, Vanessa-Mae attended the Cartier Polo days again, this time in a more formal outfit of a fantastic flowery silk dress designed by David Tang, owner of the fashion stores of Shanghai Tang. Vanessa-Mae looked fantastic in this silk dress, and her face was just made up enough to cope with the glamour her silk dress exuded - see the two photos on the right.

During the same summer of the year 2007 on June 6, Vanessa-Mae attended the preview for VIP's of the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts, also dressed in a creation by David Tang, again a very  fine silk dress. At this occasion, Vanessa-Mae looked quite made up with her lipstick in matching red to the front part of her silk dress. The second photo on this row shows Vanessa-Mae when she arrived at the preview for VIP's of the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts on June 4 of 2008. She was casually dressed in jeans and a simple silk floating grey top, yet she was heavily made up. Finally, the photo on the right shows Vanessa-Mae at the Cartier international Polo day in Windsor on July 27 of 2008. She was casually dressed in a fine white skirts and an off-white long sleeved shirt.

The Vanessa-Mae video channel has 3 new videos of Vanessa-Mae available. These 3 videos are shown below in embedded players. The first video shows Vanessa-Mae's performance at the inaugural Classical Brit Awards in May of 2000. Vanessa-Mae delivered an energetic performance of her block buster hit Storm, accompanied by 2 other violinist, of which one is Vasko Vassilev (the other remains unknown to us, unfortunately). The intro stems from Tartini's Devils Trill Sonata. Vanessa-Mae looked nice in a floating green backless top - do notice at the end of the video the expression on her face when she suddenly realised, when she bowed to the audience, that her top hangs freely over her upper body!

The second and third video stem from Vanessa-Mae appearance at a television show in Seoul, South Korea somewhere in 1998. Vanessa-Mae looked gorgeous then, her face being very heavily made up, when she delivered a touchy and cute performance of I Am A Doun, followed by an energetic version of I Feel Love.

2009 update # 36 of July 28

Our review of Vanessa-Mae concert at the Westonbirt Arboretum of Saturday July 18 of 2009 is now available at Review on Vanessa-Mae live at the Westonbirt Arboretum. The review includes over 100 photos. The following comes form the review:

Vanessa-Mae did her part of the concert in 2 sets - see the program above. Her show was more or less an normal Choreography tour concert, see our reviews of her concerts in London (October 2004), Dresden (February 2005), and Hamburg (July 2007). The consequence is that Vanessa-Mae left a few pieces out that she normally includes in concerts, like Bach Street Prelude, Destiny, Red Hot, Picante and Pasha. All in all, this means that it was 2 years ago that I did see her live in concert for the last time. I felt the excitement intensely for this new opportunity in this unique open air setting with additional music by the National Symphony Orchestra and the All Angles. Looking around and having talked to several people, I was convinced that everyone was really looking forward to her appearance. I had my camera at hand and waited when she would arrive on stage.

At about 8:30 pm, The All Angels announced that their part before the break was finished and that Vanessa-Mae would now start with her main concert of the evening. Vanessa-Mae's band appeared on stage and did some short tuning of their instruments. Then, Vanessa-Mae appeared on stage and the show began. The concert was very good. Vanessa-Mae played energetically and with passion, as did her band and the accompanying orchestra. However, the cold and humid weather conditions severely hampered keeping the instruments tuned. Especially Vanessa-Mae's leading role as solo violinist was greatly influenced, as she was constantly struggling, and due to her great experience and technique, she managed well. However Vanessa-Mae got out of tune several times, on her acoustic Guadagnini, but certainly on the white Zeta violin during the short electric leg immediately after the break. The audience did not blame Vanessa-Mae, as all recognised that she was working hard and was playing passionately to the best she could under these conditions.

2009 update # 34 of July 4

Vanessa-Mae news: Vanessa-Mae's upcoming concert at the Westonbirt Arboretum on July 18 is rapidly approaching. There are still tickets available.
Vanessa-Mae's concert on July 18 at the Westonbirt Arboretum is now rapidly approaching. Vanessa-Mae will be joined on stage by her band, The All Angels and National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anthony Inglis.

About The All Angels - quoted from their official website:
Four very different teenage girls. One shared passion for music. MELANIE NAKHLA, 18 (Date of Birth 29.12.88); CHARLOTTE RITCHIE, 18 (Date of Birth 29.08.89); LAURA WRIGHT, 17 (Date of Birth 17.06.90); DAISY CHUTE, 18 (Date of birth 17.08.89)

In the autumn of 2006, the four teenage members of All Angels were a phenomenon-in-waiting, about to deliver their debut album to an unsuspecting world. A year later, they can justly claim to be the World's First Female Classical Supergroup. They performed at the Classical Brits, where their debut album was nominated for Album Of The Year, and were watched by 10 million viewers when they sang in front of the Queen at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. They've shared stages with Russell Watson and Katherine Jenkins, and have unleashed their collective lung-power in support of the England rugby team at several crucial international matches. Their first album was the UK's fastest-selling debut for a classical act, and won them a platinum disc. Now they're eager to find out if their follow-up can do even better.

Vanessa-Mae chronicle
The new Vanessa-Mae chronicle # 6 deals with Vanessa-Mae's performance at the Children's Royal Variety in 1992. The first lines of the story are as follows:

It always is and remains very rewarding for as dedicated fan to find out something real new about your  idol. I felt a great excitement that P1RAN channel at You Tube listed a series of 14 videos that compiled together a Children Royal Variety show dating from 1992 that the BBC broadcasted back then, and that Vanessa-Mae was mentioned to be one of the performers in that particular show. To our surprise, this show dated form 1992 which means that Vanessa-Mae was only 13 years old then; it was the time that she recorded her first 3 classical albums, and that she had just finished her first tour with the London  Mozart Players for the commemoration of the fact that Mozart died 200 years ago. Material from these initial stages of Vanessa-Mae's career are very rare. A few documentaries and official promotion videos about Vanessa-Mae use filmed material of the Nicholson family that show Vanessa-Mae at a young age, but video material of full performances by Vanessa-Mae at a young age before the release of The Violin Player remain rare and are unique without a doubt.

Four new Vanessa-Mae videos on our Vanessa-Mae YouTube channel

The first video is an interview and short documentary from the Canadian television when Vanessa-Mae visited there in 1997 to promote her new albums Storm and China Girl. Vanessa-Mae was interviewed in a small studio wearing a wonderful short Chinese style red dress, and she was obviously very heavily made up.

The second video is an illegal recording made by a dear friend who attended the nomination launch for the Classical Brit Awards in 2004 that took place in the London Regent Hotel. Vanessa-Mae played Bach Street Prelude there live at the end of the ceremony. Look how beautifully she was dressed in a spectacular purple top.

The third video was made in the autumn of 2004 when Vanessa-Mae performed at the German television show Music Fur Millionen to raise money for charity that was broadcasted on ZDF national channel. Vanessa-Mae played Sabre dance, wearing a fantastic short cream yellow dress decorated with embroiders, and being heavily made up with blushed cheeks, lots of black mascara and green accents for her eyes in shadow and liner, all combined to create a beautiful presentation.

The fourth video shows Vanessa-Mae performing with JD the very touching song I Still Can Hear Your Voice.

Vanessa-Mae internet findings
Vanessa-Mae recently posed with her Audi for Octane Magazine, issue of March 27, 2009. For Octane Magazine, she posed with her Audi RS6. The website Women And Wheels quotes as follows from the Octane Magazine:

Photographed Vanessa Mae (www.vanessa-mae.com) for Octane Magazine (www.classicandperformancecar.com) yesterday in a quiet mews in Kensington. She came across as very charming, helpful and unpretentious, which is more than you can say for some celebs. We were there because she runs an Audi RS6 (www.audi.co.uk), making her probably the fastest fiddler in the world. She’s also quite a car-nut and knows exactly what makes her car go quite so fast (it’s to do with the massive engine and two massive turbochargers).

The 2 nice photos of Vanessa-Mae with her Audi RS6 come from the Octane Magazine.

New gallery 6 with photos of Vanessa-Mae at Tour For Change concerts and performances
The new gallery 6 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae brings photos that were made during Vanessa-Mae's concerts and performances of her Tour For Change in 2001 and 2002. Gallery 6 holds 16 wonderful photos of which 5 are shown below in preview. Please go to gallery 6 to see the full series and read our descriptions. The description offered below these 5 photos shown here apply to the 2 photos on the left. The gallery holds 6 photos of this event in total.

Shortly after the release in the UK of her new album Subject To Change in May 2001, Vanessa-Mae took her new music with the single Destiny to the British club circuit with considerable successes. This series of photos show Vanessa-Mae at one of these shows and at a posing for photographers immediately thereafter. She is dressed here in her so-called Destiny outfit of all black leather with a very short mini skirt with small leather strings around her legs, a top of leather strings wrapped around her upper body leaving the belly button exposed, walking on knee high black leather boots with spike heels. At all these performances, Vanessa-Mae's face was heavily made up with a covering pale complexion to which her overwhelmingly red painted glossy lips and with black liner and lots of mascara accentuated eyes served as striking contrasts. Vanessa-Mae's daring all black leather outfit and the excessive make-up certainly added to the successes of these spectacular performances.

Photos of Vanessa-Mae
The 2 photos of Vanessa-Mae shown below were added to gallery 4 of our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae. Gallery 4 holds photos that were made during concerts of Vanessa-Mae's Storm On World Tour in 1998.

Vanessa-Mae news: Vanessa-Mae attended the preview for VIP's of the annual Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts.
Last June 3, Vanessa-Mae attended the preview for VIP's of the annual Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts. The 6 nice photos below show Vanessa-Mae at her outdoor arrival. For this occasion, Vanessa-Mae used a simple but very nice cotton grey knee length dress with small shoulder straps, and she was on beautiful bright red open shoes with high heels. Vanessa-Mae was only moderately made up with simple black definition of eyes and brows, but with excessive lipstick in a bright colour red that formed a perfect match with her shoes.

Vanessa-Mae chronicle: Vanessa-Mae and Lionel : 10 years of being a happy couple together!!
The new Vanessa-Mae chronicle deals with the fact that Vanessa-Mae and Lionel form a happy couple together for now already 10 years. They met in Val D' Isere, France, when Vanessa-Mae was enjoying a skiing holidays there. Here are the first lines of the story:

In about early April, or perhaps end of March, Vanessa-Mae and Lionel mark their 10th anniversary of the fact that they met for the first time in Val D' Isere in 1999. Not too much is known about how they met exactly, but it must have been during a skiing holidays of Vanessa-Mae. Also known is the fact that at that time, the parents of Lionel possessed a store in Val D' Isere for skiing attributes. Vanessa-Mae and Lionel ran into each other in that store for the first time. Fate dictated that they met again during that same holidays of Vanessa-Mae in Val D' Isere.

To read the full story and see photos of Vanessa-Mae together with Lionel, do go to the Vanessa-Mae chronicle.

New collection acquisitions
VMSPOS recently acquired the 10 photos shown below for our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae.

VMSPOS provides the following descriptions of those 10 fantastic photos of Vanessa-Mae.

top row:
Photo 1 and 2 from the left show Vanessa-Mae performing at Buckingham Palace on April 3 of 1998 when she was invited to play at the closing ceremonial dinner evening of the ASEM II conference for 23 head of state, including Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II. At her performance, Vanessa-Mae used a shining golden dress and she was heavily made up - look at the dolled up eyes in the 2nd photo. The other 3 photos to the right were made on June 3 of 2004 when Vanessa-Mae attended the preview for VIP's of the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts. Here on this occasion, Vanessa-Mae showed a great long glamorous dress of yellow shining satin with glints of green, purple and blue in a design of a fine fantasy print. Remarkable is that Vanessa-Mae used very decorative jewelleries of a spectacular combination of necklace with precious stones and matching large earrings. Vanessa-Mae had her long black hair tied on her back so that the large earrings were very visible, as well to fully expose her perfectly made up visage - mark the fine red lipstick and against her flawless complexioned skin. Vanessa-Mae definitely delivered a perfect presentation with her appearance.

bottom row:
The 2 photos on the left show Vanessa-Mae performance at a press meeting in Seoul on December 6 of 2004 when she visited South Korea to promote her album Choreography that was just released at that time. During the press conference, Vanessa-Mae answered questions, and she played a few pieces of her new music. The 3 photos to the right show Vanessa-Mae when she visited the preview for VIP's of the summer exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in 2007 on June 6. Vanessa-Mae wears a fine highly closed silk dress by David Tang of the Shanghai Tang fashion stores. Vanessa-Mae adores the silk creation by David Tang because of the flowing and  flatteringly cut. Do mark Vanessa-Mae excessively used lipstick in matching colour red to the mid piece of her silk dress, as part of her perfectly styled face wear.

2009 update # 28 of May 24

Vanessa-Mae news:
Vanessa-Mae announced details of her Westonbirt Arboretum concert with a special guest appearance of  The All Angels.
Vanessa-Mae announced that The All Angels will appear with her on stage for a special guest collaboration at her Westonbirt Arboretum concert this summer on July 18. The guest appearance alongside Vanessa-Mae was confirmed by The All Angels. Vanessa-Mae announced that she will be joined on stage by her band and the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anthony Inglis.

Vanessa-Mae's concert at the Westonbirt Arboretum will be her first concert in  the UK since her shows in 2005 in the London Royal Albert Hall (May 12) and at the Henley-On-Thames music festival (July 17).

Vanessa-Mae video material:
In 2004 or 2005, Rhodri Owen interviewed Vanessa-Mae for the Audi channel for the series In The Front Seat that they used for promotional purposes. We already had a short version of the program, but VMSPOS managed recently to lay hands on the full version. We made this full version in two parts available in our Vanessa-Mae channel at You Tube. these 2 videos are below in the embedded players available at VMSPOS. See how Vanessa-Mae talks with Rhodri Owen about her career, her violins and, of course, about her Audi cars and fast cars in general.

Rhodri Owen introduces Vanessa-Mae as follows:

'one of the best musicians in the business who turned the world of classical music upside down with her innovative approach of a traditional discipline.'

and then Rhodri Owen continues:

'did I mention that she happens to be beautiful, internationally renowned and commercially one of the best selling artists of our times in any music genre, she is of course Vanessa-Mae.'

Do notice that in part 1, after being introduced by Rhodri Owen, the camera turns towards Vanessa-Mae, first showing her sitting on a garden seat in Holland Park in soft focus from large distance, and then zooms in on her white boots with spike heels, and finally glances over Vanessa-Mae's face, in particularly focuses on her lips and eyes to indicate clearly that she wears make-up with red lipstick, foundation crème, little shadow and mascara.

April 26, 2009: The Sunday Times estimates Vanessa-Mae's wealth to be £ 30 million on their annual rich list.
The Sunday Times ranks Vanessa-Mae with an estimated fortune of £ 30 million on position 1771 on their annual rich list in the UK. Among musicians, Vanessa-Mae is just outside the top 50. The Sunday Times writes in their report on Vanessa-Mae:

In all, she has sold 10m albums worldwide although there is little evident in her company, Fretless,
with just £160,000 net assets in 2007. Nicholson [VMSPOS - surname of Vanessa-Mae] has been quiet on the music front of late and so we clip her back to £30m.

Vanessa-Mae video material:
A very interesting video about a young Vanessa-Mae at age 12 is available on YouTube. The BBC broadcasted this material on September 21 of 1991 in a series that was called 'All about me.' The video contains unique material that shows Vanessa-Mae at age 12 practising together with Vasko Vassilev on piano, talking with her mother in the family home garden about her animal, and walking her dogs in the park together with her stepfather Graham Nicholson. The video is below in embedded player format.

Vanessa-Mae Chronicle:
In the 4th Vanessa-Mae Chronicle of 2009, VMSPOS discusses and explains some remarkable adventures of Vanessa-Mae's valuable acoustic Guadagnini violin. The title of the story and some initial lines are as follows:

REMARKABLE WHERE ABOUT FACTS OF VANESSA-MAE's ACOUSTIC GUADAGNINI VIOLIN - GIZMO

All fans of Vanessa-Mae are, or at least should be,  familiar with the fact Vanessa-Mae received her acoustic Guadagnini violin as a gift from her parents on her 10th birthday. Shortly thereafter, she made her life stage concert debut with full orchestra. Vanessa-Mae's parents bought the instrument at an auction for  £150,000. Also well known is that the violin was stolen from Vanessa-Mae's family home in Kensington, London, in 1995. It was returned by Scotland Yard safely so that Vanessa-Mae could announce her Red Hot Tour in the UK on April 6 of 1995, publicly at a press conference and act in a photo shoot holding her favourite acoustic Guadagnini violin in a loving embrace - VMSPOS: 3 nice photos follow next, so do go to Vanessa-Mae Chronicle to read the full story!

2009 update # 25 of April 25

Vanessa-Mae News: Vanessa-Mae provides her comments to questions asked by fans on the occasion of her 30th birthday, last October 27, 2008

Vanessa-Mae provided her answers to questions submitted by fans of the Vanessa-Mae Fans Forum (VMF) on the occasion of her 30th birthday. It has become a tradition (firstly organised in 2000) that Fans organised in the Vanessa-Mae Fans Forum send Vanessa-Mae a present for her birthday. Part of the present is a list with questions about issues of concern by these fans that are submitted to Vanessa-Mae. Vanessa-Mae is so kind to answer these questions every year, and she has revealed inside information on several issues that was not reported in the media, and that was not publicly known yet. Normally, Vanessa-Mae sends her answer within 1 or 2 weeks, but for reasons of her busy schedule, her answers came only recently. List of the questions and the comments by Vanessa-Mae are available in the Vanessa-Mae Fans Forum in the topic Vanessa-Mae's answers.

Vanessa-Mae apologises for the delay and thanks her fans for their patience!

The following interesting highlights come from Vanessa-Mae's comments:

On her new forthcoming album: 'I am at the initial stages of an exciting project that will be a whole new experience for me

On her acoustic violin: 'I can disclose that my violin was seized by St Petersburg customs last December and that it was only released about 2 weeks before my show in Moscow this March!'

On BBC's The Making Of Me and her mother: 'I found out that the BBC programme introduced me to many (and even me to myself!). I obviously owe much to my mother but I now feel at peace regarding our relationship.'

On the Siemens EMI party organised for her 20th birthday: 'I was actually quite sad at that PR party as I had no control over my private life in those days.

On becoming 30 and cutting her hair short because of that: 'I had always thought that 30 was a physical milestone, but when I actually got to it, I did not have the heart to cut my hair as I remembered how much I disliked my short hair.'

On why she uses her acrylic Ted Brewer violin so rarely: 'My led acrylic Ted Brewer violin is stunning, but I like the feeling that it has more impact when it is used rarely.'

Vanessa-Mae ends her comments with the following final statement to her fans: 'Thank you all so much for your support and I hope to play to you all soon. In the meantime, stay happy and safe!

To read Vanessa-Mae's complete comments to the questions, do visit Vanessa-Mae Fans Forum in the topic Vanessa-Mae's answers.

source: Vanessa-Mae Fans Forum in the topic Vanessa-Mae's answers.

Comments by VMSPOS: Vanessa-Mae is so sweet to provides her fans in the Vanessa-Mae Fans Forum with her interesting and revealing comments and answers. A few remarkable statements a worth commenting on:

1 Obviously, we all fans have to exert some more patience on the release of Vanessa-Mae's new album - she is only yet in the initial stages and the release will take a while, but hopefully we will see a new album this year 2009.

2 It is sad that the relation between Vanessa-Mae and her mother is so troubled and disturbed. We are glad to learn that Vanessa-Mae is now able to place her youth and the role her mother played in building her career in perspective and that she has come to peace with the relationship she currently has with her mother. We are so glad that she participated in the The Making Of Me and that she learnt from this so many, also about herself. It certainly helped us as fans to understand Vanessa-Mae much better.

3 It is beyond our comprehension that St Petersburg customs came to seize Vanessa-Mae's valuable acoustic Guadagnini violin, especially considering that she has been there several times before. Even if the idea about illegal transportation was to be conceivable, the question still remains why it had to take almost 3 months before the instrument was released to the rightful owner, Vanessa-Mae. Anyway, we now have a clear picture why Vanessa-Mae's concert on December 5 of 2008 in St Petersburg was cancelled.

Videos of Vanessa-Mae at her Tour For Change concerts in Oxford and London, UK November 2001.
We made a series 16 videos of Vanessa-Mae at her Tour For change concerts in Oxford and London of November 2001 available at the Vanessa-Mae channel on YouTube. We received the video tape from a dear friend and colleague fan of Vanessa-Mae who attended these concerts. Recently, we digitalised the tape via a hard disc recorder and made the videos available. Below is one video in embedded player showing Vanessa-Mae playing Storm. For the complete series, do visit the Vanessa-Mae channel on YouTube.

New photos of Vanessa-Mae found.
We recently found new photos of Vanessa-Mae on the internet.

The first photo on the top row left shows Vanessa-Mae probable in November 1997 when she visited the USA to promote her new album China Girl that was just released on the American continent. We assume that the photo was made during or after a signing session that Vanessa-Mae did in a record store. We have a video of Vanessa-Mae at this signing session in New York available at the Vanessa-Mae channel on YouTube. The video is below in the embedded player, so judge for yourself if the the photo originates from the same event as the video shows. Vanessa-Mae wears her fantastic bright yellow silk blouse in combination with a red silk suit. Do mark, that Vanessa-Mae's face was heavily made up - black lined eyes and a striking mark of bright red glossy lipstick in a perfectly smooth complexioned visage - to counterbalance the overwhelming decorative nature of the gleaming silk outfit!

The next 3 photos on the top line were made during the press conference that Vanessa-Mae gave on July 5 of 2007 in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, on the day that she would perform a sold out concert in the local Winter Sport Palace. Here, Vanessa-Mae was in a fine silk dress; her face was of course perfect with eyes defined with black liner and mascara, excessive lipstick in matching red to the front of her dress. The final 3 photos on the bottom line come from a press conference in India that she visited in August of 2007 to do 3 concerts in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore. At this event, Vanessa-Mae was wearing a fine multi-colour spotted blouse, her shining black hair tied and pulled backwards out of her face that looks heavily made up.

Vanessa-Mae internet findings.
Recently we discovered the website Rahmanism dedicated to the Indian musician and composer A.R Rahman. Of course, all fans of Vanessa-Mae are familiar with the fact that A.R. Rahman composed Raga's Dance on Vanessa-Mae's album Choreography, a truly great piece of music that shows Rahman's ability to create for others to excel in their field of speciality; in case of Vanessa-Mae, Rahman composed a piece for violin virtuosity outside her immediate style of playing. Rahmanism provides a nice article on Vanessa-Mae and her album Choreography, and links to VMSPOS for more information. Moreover, Rahmanism uses photos from VMSPOS that are, unfortunately, currently not available anymore, or have been renamed, resulting in dead links.

New collection acquisitions: 4 new photos of Vanessa-Mae.
We recently acquired 4 new photos of Vanessa-Mae that were made during her concert last year in Prague on September 26, 2008. The 2 photos on the left show Vanessa-Mae playing her acoustic Guadagnini violin with an expression of dedicated concentration on her made up face of which the blue shadow and purple lipstick are obviously noticeable. Vanessa-Mae was dressed in blue jeans and a midnight blue sleeveless shirt with wide ruffled collar, to which the colours used in her make-up match nicely. These 4 photos, together with others from Choreography tour concerts, will be part of a new gallery 7 that we aim to start somewhere this coming week.

Vanessa-Mae Chronicle.
A new Vanessa-Mae Chronicle is available and deals with Vanessa-Mae's involvement in the campaign to promote the new Mercedes C Class car that was launched early 2000. The first lines of the story as follows:

Around February of 2000, Mercedes launched a new model for their Mercedes C class car. Mercedes approached Vanessa-Mae to involved in a promotion campaign for the European market. Vanessa-Mae's role in this campaign is in line with her participations for other valued commodities for some other world wide operating firms. Vanessa-Mae fit in these roles very well because she is a world wide famous celebrity with an undisputed  and irreproachable conduct, an absolute necessity for someone to bring additional value into a campaign for launching such commodities to the market successfully. Siemens Mobile Phones, Rover Cars, Mercedes, Rado watches, Oriental Hotels and Audi Cars are the most well known commodities that were, and some still are today, endorsed by Vanessa-Mae.

The campaign used various promotional material, and we are so lucky to have several of these in our collection. The Vanessa-Mae Chronicle uses scans and photos of this material as illustration. A few scans are shown below here.

2009 update # 19 of March 22

Vanessa-Mae news: more photos of Vanessa-Mae at her sold out concert at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on March 18, 2009
We found the following series of 7 photos of Vanessa-Mae at her sold out concert at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, last Wednesday March 18. Vanessa-Mae played music from her most recent album Choreography and from her albums Storm, Subject To Change, and The Violin Player, using both her acoustic Guadagnini and electric Zeta violins.

These photos clearly show the elaborated nature of Vanessa-Mae's silver coloured dress: mark all the details of the decorative embroiders! Also, the strong eye definition with black and dark shadow, as well as the striking mark of red lipstick in her pale complexioned visage, indicate that Vanessa-Mae's face was considerable made up for this concert, well inline with common practice for her performances and public appearances.

New videos of Vanessa-Mae at her concert in Argentina in 1998 at our YouTube Vanessa-Mae Channel
EMI made a documentary about Vanessa-Mae during her visit to Argentina during September of 1998. The documentary films Vanessa-Mae in Buenos Aires and she talked about her life and music while sitting in a cafe somewhere in the city centre. The documentary also contains several numbers from the concert that Vanessa-Mae delivered on September 20 in the Parque de la Costa, in Buenos Aires. The scenes from her concert are now available at the Vanessa-Mae Channel in 6 very interesting videos. The direct links to the videos are provided below together with a brief comment.

Vanessa-Mae plays Storm: The video starts with introductory speech of Vanessa-Mae in the Spanish language to her audience. Mark Vanessa-Mae's funny accent and the way she pronounces her own name. Vanessa-Mae wears her long multi-coloured silk coat during this music.

Vanessa-Mae plays I Am A Doun: Note during the close-up when she sings the vocal intro part, Vanessa-Mae's smouldering eye make-up and red lips as indication that she was considerable made up during this concert. Vanessa-Mae wears jeans and a black sleeveless T-shirt and has a small band around her right upper arm.

Vanessa-Mae sings and plays  I Feel Love: Vanessa-Mae takes of her long silk coat and starts singing while she walks and dances over the stage, having a fine crucifix pendant charmingly dangling on her chest, visible by sparkling in the spotlights. During the song, Vanessa-Mae addresses the audience in Spanish to cheer them up and bring enthusiasm to the crowd. Vanessa-Mae's month appears very wide as a result of the overwhelmingly rich applied red lipstick.

Vanessa-Mae plays Hocus Pocus: Notice how Vanessa-Mae' body language shows her involvement and dedication to her music.

Vanessa-Mae plays Retro: Vanessa-Mae's white and healthy teeth really blink against her red painted lips.

Vanessa-Mae plays Storm as encore: Vanessa-Mae ends her concert by replay of Storm as encore. The audience goes wild when she jumps off the stage. The video contains a few shots of Vanessa-Mae in Buenos Aires and ends with the end titles and credits.

2009 update # 15 of March 7

Videos of Vanessa-Mae in Argentina, 1998.
Vanessa-Mae visited Argentina in during September of 1998 for promotional activities and a concert on September 20 at the Parque de la Costa in Buenos Aires. Vanessa-Mae appeared in 2 televisions shows, filmed an official documentary in Buenos Aires, and made a guest appearance at a concert of The Backstreet Boys. VMSPOS made 4 short videos available online at our Vanessa-Mae channel at YouTube. The quality of the videos is not great, but we consider the material to be unique and assume that many fans of Vanessa-Mae will find it interesting to to take notice of these videos.

Vanessa-Mae joins The Backstreet Boys: Vanessa-Mae joins the Backstreet Boys live on stage as guest musician at their concert in Buenos Aires. Vanessa-Mae was dressed, like the Backstreet Boys, completely in red colours of a fine Chinese style knee length with rich embroiders of Chinese figures. Do notice that Vanessa-Mae's face was very heavily made up, especially the smouldering dark eye definition and bright red lipstick are well descriptive.

Vanessa-Mae plays I Feel Love: Vanessa-Mae at a television show singing and playing I Feel Love. Vanessa-Mae was in a long green dress, had considerable make-up with with lots of fading greenish shadow.

Vanessa-Mae plays Storm: During the appearance an other television show, Vanessa-Mae was first interviewed and then played Storm.

Vanessa-Mae plays I Feel Love: During the same television show, Vanessa-Mae was again interviewed shortly after she had performed Storm, and played I Feel Love after this to finish her appearance.

We recently received the following 10 photos of Vanessa-Mae. A brief description of the photos and the occasions of the events with dates follows below the table.

Photos 1-4: On November 10 of 2008, the L'Oreal Legends Gala took place in New York, a charity event that succeeded to raise over $ 4.3 million for the benefit of The Ovarian Cancer Fund. Vanessa-Mae performed in an enchanted concert after dinner at that gala evening. On these photos, Vanessa-Mae is shown playing her acrylic Ted Brewer violin  - see for more information Vanessa-Mae's violins at VMSPOS. Vanessa-Mae was dressed in a bright red gala gown and she was made up with excess of matching red for her lipstick that bordered in a perfectly sharp line to her covering foundation crème that was used for her face wear to create an impeccable flawless complexion serving to enhance her natural beauty adequately. Vanessa-Mae's eyes, bright looking underneath perfectly shaped brows, were well defined with some shadow, a lot of black mascara and liner - see for a detailed look of Vanessa-Mae heavily made up visage especially photo 1!

Photos 5 and 6: Vanessa-Mae visited together with Lionel, the Cartier International Polo days in Windsor on July 27 of 2008. VMSPOS listed already 2 photos of this event in the update of February 14. Here we have two other close ups of Vanessa-Mae at this event that show that Vanessa-Mae had cosmetic face coverage but that her make-up was only descriptive in use of excess red lipstick. Vanessa-Mae's beige long sleeved shirt looks really fantastic. She had a small black shoulder, perhaps to keep sunglasses and some make-up attributes in order to maintain her complexion and lipstick in perfect condition, every now and then.

Photos 7 and 8: As Audi user herself, Vanessa-Mae attended the launch party for the new Audi TT model on May 9 of 2005. For the occasion, Vanessa-Mae was wearing a fabulous tight fitting short light suede jacket to half way her upper body, revealing the white T-shirt she had underneath, and blue jeans. Her shining long black hair was in free style on her shoulders and back, framing her visage that looked very natural with only a minimum of coverage, though with a lot of bright red lipstick and black for eye definition: a really superb sporty presentation of our Vanessa-Mae.

Photos 9 and 10: Vanessa-Mae visited South Korea, early December of 2004 to promote her new album Choreography. The photos show Vanessa-Mae at a press conference on December 6 in Seoul. Vanessa-Mae was dressed in a green flimsy sleeveless with a low cut V-neck. She had large pair of earrings with green round green pendants that showed nicely from underneath her long shining black hair. Vanessa-Mae's face was made up expressively with covering crème, some nice pink blush on her cheeks, a lot of black mascara to accentuate lashes and eye brows, and richly used red lipstick. Vanessa-Mae caught extensive attention form the media with this fantastic presentation.

Photo 11: On her journey to East Asia for promotional intentions, Vanessa-Mae passed Schiphol Airport Amsterdam late October of 2004. She had a meeting with the press and did a television interview - see Vanessa-Mae interview at RTL4 part 1, Vanessa-Mae interview at RTL4 part 2, Vanessa-Mae interview at RTL4 part 3, and Vanessa-Mae interview at RTL4 part 4 videos at YouTube. She also did a photo session with a Dutch photographer. Vanessa-Mae was dressed in a blue silk dress with open back, and her face was heavily made up. We hope to get more of the wonderful photos of this session one day.

Vanessa-Mae News: Vanessa-Mae was on BBC 1 television
February, 26, 2009: Vanessa-Mae appeared on BBC 1 television show This Week to participate in a discussion on wise women. The BBC website describes as follows:

Intelligence is in the spotlight - with the success of Gail Trimble on University Challenge - as violinist Vanessa-Mae looks at how society views clever people, especially women.

We quote Vanessa-Mae from the show twice, as follows:

'I think that people don't take for granted that a woman is intelligent, which is bizarre'

'In this country, people just want their children to be happy,
but to be happy as a child, means to invest time
and hard work in becoming a better adult'

The video is available at the BBC website, as well as on YouTube - see the links as sourced below!

Vanessa-Mae chronicle # 2 of 2009 - ASEM and Vanessa-Mae: Bridging the gap
Probable the most rare and most valuable item in our collection of Vanessa-Mae material is the special 2cd box Vanessa-Mae that was especially released in a very limited number of copies by EMI as gift to all the delegate members present on the closing ceremonial evening of the ASEM II - Asian Europe - summit held in London form April 2-4 of 1998. Vanessa-Mae was honoured by prime minister Tony Blair with an invitation to perform a special concert after the ceremonial closing dinner of the ASEM II conference in Buckingham Palace in the presence of HM Queen Elisabeth II, several other members of the Royal Family, 25 heads of state, and several other senior members of the various delegations from the Asian and European continents.

2009 update # 12 of February 15

Vanessa-Mae news: Sky Arts 2 will broadcast Vanessa-Mae's Alternative Classical Concert on Thursday at 8pm (GMT)
Sky Arts 2 will broadcast Vanessa-Mae's Alternative Classical Concert that she performed on January 25 of 1997 at the Symphony Hall of Birmingham, UK. Vanessa-Mae saw her classical tour concerts in the UK hampered because foreign members of her orchestra were refused work permits for the UK. Sky Arts provides the following description on their website for the announcement of Vanessa-Mae's concert:

January 1997 saw young violin star Vanessa-Mae scheduled to bring her pop-classical tour from Germany to the UK for a series of 14 concerts. However, legal wrangles prevented the entry of her backing musicians - so in the space of 48 hours, Vanessa-Mae devised a new concert programme to keep the fans who had tickets for the tour happy.

The result was a triumph of resourcefulness over adversity, with an impromptu band being assembled virtually overnight, and a new programme of popular classics put together on the hop.

One of the concerts - at the Birmingham Symphony Hall - was filmed for this programme, giving you the chance to enjoy the show which ensured that not a single ticket for the original tour was returned. Vanessa-Mae brings her effervescence and undoubted technique to a range of popular classics including the showpiece solo of Bach's E major Partita Prelude, the joyful ensemble work in Schubert's 'Trout' Quintet, the fizzing exuberance of Rossini's String Sonata No 3, and several surprises.

Comments by VMSPOS: We have seen this wonderful concert already and have it in our collection of digital video material. We recommend the concert to all who dares to step outside the traditional classical heritage, and of course to all fans of Vanessa-Mae who haven't seen this great performance before. Enjoy Vanessa-Mae in Alternative Classical Concert!

Vanessa-Mae's violins
Vanessa-Mae's violins describes what violins Vanessa-Mae owns and uses for recording sessions and concerts, and at promotion and other performances. Backgrounds of each of her violins, as well as a few technical details are provided in these stories; photos of Vanessa-Mae with each of her violins are shown for illustrative reasons. Unfortunately, these photos were not available anymore since VMSPOS launched the newly designed site early January of 2009. These photos are now available again, thus restoring the story of Vanessa-Mae's violins to its original context. 2009 update # 9 of February 14

Four new videos uploaded on our Vanessa-Mae channel at YouTube.
We have uploaded 4 new videos of Vanessa-Mae that we digitalised from conventional video tape recently.

Vanessa-Mae at Blue Peter, BBC 1995

Vanessa-Mae played her new single Classical Gas Reggae during an episode of Blue Peter on BBC television, aired in 1996. The show hosts had a few words with Vanessa-Mae, and a brief overview of her life was shown before she performed Classical Gas Reggae. Below are 3 nice screen captures from the video. The overview showed the cute baby photo of Vanessa-Mae (mid capture), and a few scenes form Vanessa-Mae's ever first performance with full orchestra (capture on the right)

Vanessa-Mae at the Surprise Surprise show 1995

In 1995, Vanessa-Mae appeared at BBC's Surprise Surprise show where she played Toccata & Fugue and handed a special remembrance disc of her album The Violin Player to a young admirer, a girl with the ambition to become a famous violinist too. The 3 screen captures below come form the video. Th young girl, Joanne, appeared very shy towards her role model, Vanessa-Mae. Vanessa-Mae had fine short black dress with red flower motives and a nice crucifix on a tiny necklace. She had a curly hairstyle and was definitely very heavily made up - see the close-up of Vanessa-Mae on the left.

Vanessa-Mae with 3 young talents, 1996

In 1996, Vanessa-Mae appeared on Dutch television in a show to raise money for charity. For this show, youngsters were teamed up with one of their idols in a performance. Vanessa-Mae joined Rosanne, Jeroen and Timothy to support them in their performance of the allegro movement of a concert by Vivaldi, composed for 4 violins. For this occasion, Vanessa-Mae was in a wonderful long black dress, and she was wearing very heavy make-up, especially the smouldering dark eye definition and the glossy lipstick were spectacular - see capture to the left. The 2 other captures show all 4 playing and accepting the ovation from the audience. Perhaps, Rosanne, Jeroen and Timothy are still fans and admirers of Vanessa-Mae and may visit VMSPOS from time to time, and then find this video particularly interesting.

Vanessa-Mae at the Echo Awards in 1997
During autumn of 1997, Vanessa-Mae received the Echo Music Award for the Classical Music Without Frontiers. This video comes from the show as it was aired on German television. The capture on the left shows Vanessa-Mae arriving on stage wearing a fine silk red coat. In the middle, Vanessa-Mae is shown performing her music Storm - she took off the silk coat first. On the right, Vanessa-Mae speaks her thank you all words in German to the audience.

Comment by VMSPOS: The videos may not be online yet as processing by YouTube appears quite tedious. Please check back again later if a 'vidoe not available' message appears!

New photos of Vanessa-Mae.
We regularly receive new photos of Vanessa-Mae, and we always announce new acquisitions here on VMSPOS, However, below are shown 21 nice ones that we had no time to announce on our website any earlier. Short descriptions of these photos follow below. All these photos are not yet part of a gallery in our collection of photos of Vanessa-Mae.

On the first line are: photos 1 and 2: These photos were made on April 6, 1995, when Vanessa-Mae announced her plans for her Red Hot Tour in the UK, scheduled for the summer; photo 3: Vanessa-Mae playing Toccata & Fugue at the World Music Awards that took place in Monaco on April 17 of 1997, where she was awarded as Best Selling Classical Artist. Vanessa-Mae was dressed in a short blue dress, two nice tiny necklaces with a precious stone and a crucifix pendant dangled on her chest, and Vanessa-Mae was heavily made up. Photos 4 & 5 are official EMI promotion portraits for the Storm On World Tour and her album The Original Four Seasons, respectively.

photo 1 photo 2 photo 3 photo 4 photo 5

On the second line below are: photo 6: Vanessa-Mae with her mother Pamela at their arrival at the 40th birthday celebration party of Sarah Ferguson on October 12 of 1999. Here, Vanessa-Mae wears a daring long dress which is slightly see-through from certain angles. She has short hair and funny make-up of bright shining blue eye-liner and shadow; photo 7: A close-up portrait of Vanessa-Mae, whose face is obviously very heavily made-up with covering crème, powder, lipstick, blush on her cheeks and lots of eye definition; photos 8 and 9: These 2 photos are official Sony portraits to promote Vanessa-Mae's debut recording Choreography for Sony Classical. Note that Vanessa-Mae's face is covered pale foundation crème that forms a striking contrast with the bright red glossy lipstick that was used excessively; photo 10 was made on October 22 of 2004 at the signing session that Vanessa-Mae acted in after her concert in the Royal Festival Hall - VMSPOS was there!! Do read our review of the concert and signing session with more photos at Royal Festival Hall concert.

photo 6 photo 7 photo 8 photo 9 photo 10

Photos 11 and 12: These two photos were made at the re-launch party for Gerrard Jewellers that was organised by Jade Jagger on September 19 of 2002 in the Tower Of London. Especially photo 12 is a nice portrait of Vanessa-Mae and Lionel showing that they do look good together as a happy couple. Vanessa-Mae wears an elegant long black dress, her face is just perfect, done with enough make-up to match Vanessa-Mae's celebrity status, but not overdone to make her look painted: no doubt a stylish and classy presentation for our Vanessa-Mae; photos 13 and 14 were made at Vanessa-Mae's charity concert in Geneva for the ICRC on May 13 of 2006. For this occasion, Vanessa-Mae was dressed quite casually in jeans and a short cotton vest that left her belly button exposed, yet Vanessa-Mae's face looked obviously as richly done with  luxuriant make-up; photo 15: Vanessa-Mae photographed at her arrival for a fund raising evening for Elephant Dunbar on June 27 of 2006. Vanessa-Mae's presentation is top class in an elegant bright red silk long dress and her face perfectly made up in which only the bright red lipstick and black eye definition are descriptive in her soberly pale complexioned visage.

photo 11 photo 12 photo 13 photo 14 photo 15

The 6 photos below all date from the past 1.5 year. Photos 16 and 17: Vanessa-Mae portrayed at the Cartier International Polo day on July 29 of 2007. She wears a beautiful and fine flowered blue silk dress that was designed by David Tang from the Shanghai Tang fashion stores. Notice that Vanessa-Mae mouth appears wider because of the richly used bright red glossy lipstick that forms a contrasting mark in her perfectly complexioned visage; photos 18 and 19 were made at her arrival when Vanessa-Mae attended the preview for VIP's of the summer exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts at June 4 of 2008. She looks casual in jeans and a fine silk shirt, yet with her face is perfectly made up, including lots of bright red lipstick; photos 20 and 21 were made the Cartier International Polo day of 2008, on July 27. Vanessa-Mae was accompanied by Lionel and was dressed in a beige long sleeved shirt and white skirt, her face was, of course, perfect and again she had richly used red lipstick.

2009 update # 8 of February 7

February 5, 2009 Vanessa-Mae News: Vanessa-Mae and Lionel attended a charity event to raise money for the Morecambe Bay Children's Fund.
Vanessa-Mae and Lionel attended a charity party in the Electric Cinema to support fund raising for the  Morecambe Bay Children's Fund. The party was hosted by fashion icon David Tang. Among the attendees were also models Naomi Campbell and Laura Bailey. The photo below shows Vanessa-Mae sitting down together with her friend and life companion Lionel Catalan. Vanessa-Mae wears brown pair of tights, a long sleeved green T-shirts underneath a off white to light pink shirt with puffed short sleeves, she is on large knee high brown leather boots, and has her long black shining hair in free style. Vanessa-Mae's face is perfectly smooth and is made up with covering flawless crème, little eye definition, and an excessively use of bright red glossy lipstick results in a nice and eye catching presentation.

The Morecambe bay tragedy took place in 2004 when 23 Chinese cockle pickers were found dead. The gang master was caught and convicted for murder, and the bodies repatriated. However, 5,000 miles away in Fujian province, the tragedy has only deepened, and the impact on the children of the 23 victims is enormous. The Morecambe Bay Children's Fund aims to support the children and the families of the 23 victims. Morecambe bay is  a large sandy bay in the north west of England, reaching from Walney Island in the north to Fleetwood in the south, and the second largest bay in the UK after the Wash bay.

Video of Vanessa-Mae's appearance on the Asia Life show, BBC television November 2001.
Early November of 2001, Vanessa-Mae starred as guest at the BBC television show Asia Life where she performed White Bird and was then interviewed. She ended the show with another performance playing Destiny. Below are a few screen captures of the show.

The video  is available at our Youtube Vanessa-Mae channel in 3 parts - see also there for more nice videos of Vanessa-Mae appearances on television. At the Asia Life show, during White Bird and the interview Vanessa-Mae was dressed  in jeans and a sleeveless red T-shirt that let her belly button exposed, and a necklace dangled nicely in the V-neck of her shirt. Do notice on the first screen capture that Vanessa-Mae had a large decorating ring on her right hand middle finger. At the end of the show, Vanessa-Mae changed to a strapless bright red top, again with open belly button. Vanessa-Mae had her hair growing again and it was now just over her shoulders. Vanessa-Mae looked rather natural, wearing not too much make-up in which only the red lipstick was strikingly present.

Vanessa-Mae chronicle
We have a new Vanessa-Mae Chronicle available with the title 'Vanessa-Mae: A magical presentation, dressed in her Chinese style silk yellow blouse, always in combination with heavy make-up!'  Here are the first lines of the chronicle:

In the last update of VMSPOS - issue # 30 of December 21 - we mentioned that we recently found the photo of Vanessa-Mae depicted below that was made in Rome during early November 1997. The photo shows Vanessa-Mae in a particular nice and demure pose, looking into the camera while she comfortable leans on the back of a couch or chair. The photo is fantastic and a wonderful portrait of Vanessa-Mae. We possess many fantastic photos of Vanessa-Mae but we like this one particularly for a number of reasons. Vanessa-Mae looks extremely beautiful on this photo, and she was definitely gorgeous as a girl when she was aged around 19-20 years.

2009 update #2 of January 10, 2009

Video material of Vanessa-Mae
Over the years, we have recorded on video tape many appearances of Vanessa-Mae on television, or programs featuring a topic around Vanessa-Mae. We made several attempts to convert these videos to digital format but these always suffered severely from lost of quality and synchrony of audio with image. Fortunately, modern technology of hard disc recorders provide new tools to accomplish the conversion easily. Currently, we are busy converting all our video material with Vanessa-Mae to digital format. We made the first 6 videos of around 6-7 minutes each available via YouTube. The quality of the videos is not always very good but we thought that the material is interesting enough to make it available for all fans of Vanessa-Mae.

Vanessa-Mae appeared in a German talk show broadcasted on NDR television channel 3 in May 1998. Vanessa-Mae's appearance lasted about 20 minutes and that prompted us to divide the master video file in 3 parts. First, Vanessa-Mae delivered an electrifying performance of Storm in the studio before joining the other guests and host at the round table. The format of this talk show is that 2 hosts sitting at a round table talking to each of the guests individually, but with the others interacting in the conversation from time to time. Normally all guests are German, but Vanessa-Mae was interviewed via a instant translator delivering to her via an earphone. Unfortunately, German television practising voice over techniques with English speech and that makes the conversation with Vanessa-Mae difficult to understand for non German speaking viewers. In short, the conversation with Vanessa-Mae deals with her career, her upbringing, the pressure she feels for meeting the high expectations - especially knowing that the violin she received form her parents at age of 10 costed about £150,000 - and her experiences at the handover of Hong Kong to China and her performance at the Eurovision Song Contest earlier that month. Very touching and cute is the moment that 3 of the other guests - all 3 being famous German hairstylists - join the conversation when they were asked how they judge Vanessa-Mae's hair style and physical appearance. Vanessa-Mae received overwhelming compliments and she appeared quite shy with these making her face visible blush under all her make-up. Vanessa-Mae looked fantastic there indeed. She was dressed all silk in Chinese style, wearing red long pants, a bright yellow blouse and a long multi-coloured coats. Vanessa-Mae's face was gorgeous and spectacular, with face wear of heavily applied make-up of overall covering crème rendering a smooth and flawless complexion, her eyes defined with black sparkling liner underneath, black mascara and dark brown line of shadow fading to grey all up to her brows, and glossy pink lipstick. Vanessa-Mae looked fantastic and it is cute and remarkable that one could see that she blushed behind all that make-up. This scene is in part 2 of the interview. Vanessa-Mae's bright yellow silk blouse is a brilliant garment that suits her very well, and she used it during 1997 and 1998 frequently. We will elaborate on these occasions in our forthcoming Vanessa-Mae chronicle that will appear in about 2 weeks at VMSPOS. Please enjoy seeing Vanessa-Mae at the NDR talk show via the 3 links below.

Vanessa-Mae interviewed by NDR television part 2 - 1998

We have 3 other interesting video clips of Vanessa-Mae that all date from end 1997 and 1998.

Vanessa-Mae at Live & Kicking - December 13, 1997 shows Vanessa-Mae talking to a selected group of children in the studio and by telephone answering questions that they had for her. The present 'quote of Vanessa-Mae' at VMSPOS - see at the bottom of this page below this frame - stems for one of her answers when she was asked how she sounded when she first played the violin!

Vanessa-Mae playing Storm at Blue Peter - December 12, 1997 is an electrifying performance in the studio. Look at Vanessa-Mae's special wavy and waxy hairstyle.

Vanessa-Mae at the lottery show - January 1998, when she talked briefly about the Chinese new year celebrations and her forthcoming free open air concert on Leicester Square to promote her new classical album China Girl that she would give on that day. Mark in the close-ups Vanessa-Mae's face being made up to a perfectly flawless monochrome complexion with covering crème, hardly any additional eye definition and eye brows that were styled to thin black lines on top of her make-up. Vanessa-Mae's red dress is great and looked wonderful on her, especially in combination with the lipstick in matching red.

New photos found on the internet.
We recently found the following series of fine photos of Vanessa-Mae at the internet. The series was made in 2007 by the famous celebrity photographer Rankin who used one of these in his project for the South bank Centre front row project to adorn the riverfront facade of the Royal Festival Hall that was due to reopen in June after a £91million refurbishment. Vanessa-Mae was photographed wearing a simple black jeans, a short black round-necked sleeveless T-shirt that left her belly button exposed, and black high heeled pointed boots. For creating contrasting effects with the all black outfit, Vanessa-Mae's face was made up only with a pale toned covering foundation crème and, except a small line of dark shadow, no additional colouring eye make-up was used, only an excessively used super sweet red lipstick served a striking mark in her impeccable complexion that expressed a serene flawlessness and perfection. The series of photos contains coloured and black and white items.
